Sportscaster, author, editor, and Armonk resident Rick Wolff died on Monday, April 10 at age 71 after a brief battle with brain cancer, his family announced on his blog.

Wolff was known for hosting his popular weekly radio show "The Sports Edge," which aired on New York City-based WFAN Sports Radio and often focused on youth sports.

Beginning in 1998, the show was a great source of joy for Wolff, his family said. Additionally, he also appeared as a featured expert on many popular television shows and networks such as "The Oprah Winfrey Show," ESPN, CNN, ABC’s “Nightline”, ABC’s “20/20”, "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," "CBS This Morning," and many more.

In addition to his career in sportscasting, Wolff also had a hand in publishing and editing numerous successful novels and eventually became a "highly sought after" New York Times No. 1 best-selling editor, his family said.

Popular books that Wolff had a hand in editing include "Jack: Straight from the Gut" by Jack Welch, "Call Me Ted" by Ted Turner, "How I Play Golf" by Tiger Woods, and "On the Brink" by Hank Paulsen, in addition to several others.

Wolff was also an author and was involved in 18 books during his career, including "Secrets of Sports Psychology Revealed," published in 2018 by Skyhorse.

Wolff's expertise in sports came in part from first-hand experience, as he was once a professional baseball player for the Detroit Tigers and was also hired by the Cleveland Indians as their first roving sports psychology coach from 1989 to 1994.

Wolff was most proud of his family, including his wife of over 40 years, Trish; his children, John, Alyssa, and Samantha; his grandchildren Riley, Skylar, and Henry; and many other family members.

He was the son of Hall-of-Fame sportscaster Bob Wolff, a resident of South Nyack in Rockland County who died in 2017 at age 96.

In their post honoring Wolff, his family called him "truly just a wonderful person" who was "wise, thoughtful, sharp, funny," and "incredibly smart."

"In his honor, please remember to never give up on your dreams. He never did, even after so many of them had come true," his family continued.
